RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} FROM E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} ORIGINAL E1/M17.12.28. X3449. re. MESSRS STOTHERT & PITT. Re. your memo. HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}1/LG121228., R.{Sir Henry Royce} agreed to test a Stothert & Pitt patent rotary pump as regards suitability for use on car engines for pumping oil. We shewed a print of the pump suggested for trial to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} on one occasion when he was at WW., and subsequently wrote to Stothert & Pitt on the 10th. Jan. last (copy to HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}) asking them to send the pump when ready to Derby for the attention of Mr. Hives. Since then we do not recollect having heard any more about the matter. The pump is of the type in which a 3 toothed pinion drives a 4 toothed annular gear ring, the latter acting as a rotary valve in relation to ports formed in the pump casing. It should have the merit of silence of opera- tion, but the pulsations may be a disadvantage. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
