14698 To BY. {R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from HDY. {William Hardy} HDY. {William Hardy} 1/HP.25.7.34. c. for. Mr. Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Sc. WHC Hs {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} /Les. Damper Control Unit. ------------------- N. Sch.4148 herewith shews a filter fitted to the suction side of the pump. Our drawing shows the Phantom unit but it is intended that the same filter should be used for all of the cars. In the case of the SpectreCodename for Phantom III, the first car should have a modified J.3. unit without a pump filter, but an entirely new casting is to be provided with the valves handed so that the filling spout which should be on the face of the box which looks towards the front of the car, can be incorporated in the existing cover plate. The filter is made large in order that the pump suction shall not be restricted. We think that the filler filter should be retained as a protection against choking of the suction filter and to avoid the necessity for the inspection of the suction filter, which it is very desirable should never be disturbed.
