F J H E.1/HP.31.1.36. RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} c. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Sft.{Mr Swift} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} WS. JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} re Wheelcase and Gears - Bentley and 20/25. Thank you for your report RHC{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}/RHS/ETM.23.1.36. This investigation summarises some interesting and useful results:- Wheelcase. With regard to the wheelcase, we anticipated the faults you find with the present type, and on LeC.4632, which was issued for the larger slipper flywheel there are no flat surfaces, and the case is ribbed internally. This engine is we believe on the bed, and we should like to know if we have achieved the object of making the case anti-resonant. Crankcase. The overhanging section of the crankcase housing the dynamo drive is being strengthened up and will be naturally re-enforced bythe design for the new front engine foot. Engine Gears. This is a matter for revising the operations. Gear Cutting. This is a question of revising the gear cutting tackle. Lapping of Gears. In lapping the spring drive gear we would suggest that this wheel should be lapped as an assembly, and not as an individual unit. It is not necessary to include the whole of the spring drive in the assembly but only those pieces for which it is necessary to cover a spigotting tolerance. | ||
