Contd. -2- Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}2/NJ/7.6.21. and they do not appear to have been asked whether they were prepared to design a dynamo not larger than 5 1/4" dia. You are aware that they have offered to ossociate themselves with us in the design and production of any special dynamo and motor we desire to have, and further, that they have declared that they would be prepared to supply us motors and dynamos for Goshawk II at a sacrifice, rather than allow the orders to go elsewhere. I am very strongly of the opinion that the Lucas Electrical Co.Ltd., ought to be afforded the opportunity of proceeding on these lines and should they fail to give us satisfaction, we shall not be in any worse position than we are to-day, but, on the other hand, there is a prospect that they might succeed in satisfying us, in which case we should be, in my opinion, in a better position for obtaining supplies than if we standardised the productions of any of the other three makers to which reference has been made.
