BENTLEY 111.

MODIFIED WIRE WHEEL FOR WIDER FRONT BRAKE DRUMS.

Please receive herewith blueprints of PD.122 which shows the wire wheel of the Dunlop drawing CDS.1244, Scheme 1, in the correct relation-ship to the wider brake drum required for the front of Bentley 111. The out-of-centre print is not altered from the original schemes and is for the 13.75" rolling radius of the tyres fitted on B.111 approx. 2.17 at the road.

The hub is altered by this scheme.

A scheme of the brakes to suit the wider drum will follow shortly.

Since this scheme maintains the original relationship of wheel and tyre and pivot it will be necessary to modify the cross steering lever in order to obtain clearance between the cross steering ball joint and the tyre. This modification will be shown in a subsequent scheme.

These wheels are intended to be used with the present type of rear axle and a new rear hub will be required to maintain the track at the present figure. When it is desired to use these wheels with the semi-floating axle of PD's 90 and 91 redesign of the hub of that axle will be necessary to accommodate them in place of the bottom pressed steel wheels and the axle tubes and shafts may also be altered.

It is intended to use the wire wheel, as drawn with 16.00 x 4.500" rim on all future B.111 cars commencing with 2-B-5 and the wire wheel with 16.00 x 5.00 rim on the first B.50.
