- 5 - HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/RH.{R. Hollingworth}1/VS.{J. Vickers}3.6.37. Oil Pump E.86843. LeC.4400. Bearings and spindles in good condition. Bedding of teeth uneven. Flywheel and Clutch LOP.G.84357. N.S.4738-4747-4819. The setting of the operating fingers was measured as desired in HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/WSC.{W. S. Cassel}1/BA.25.5.37. and was 1.060". The wear on the linings was .049", the latter (in V.M.20) being grooved and greasy. There was also a rather large amount of greasy friction-lining dust present in the cover. The pressure-plate surface was slightly tarnished and grooved and the condition of the flywheel friction surface was very poor, being tarnished, scored and grooved. Several high spots were in evidence, and at these, extensive surface cracks, in some places quite deep, had occurred. The front end of the splines in the clutch driven plate were rusty. The spring cups were all tight in the cover. The teeth of the gear-ring G.84346 were badly damaged and worn by the starter-pinion. The clutch withdrawing mechanism was in good condition and the operating shaft worked freely - lubrication was good. Engine Coupling LOP.G.88471. N.S.4537. - N.S.4908. increased flexibility of coupling. G.85152. Coupling (with provision for balancing) produced in S/M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} The flexible coupling plates were in good condition and free from cracks, but had scored and worn the six .312 dia bolts to a depth of from .003" to .007". The .006" washers between the plates of the flexible couple were a poor job, the holes being elongated probably due to damage on assembly. As these are a very difficult job to assemble and do not appear to have any work to do, it is suggested they be left off/the next 10,000 miles test. on continued. | ||
