Gentlemen,

For the attention of Mr. W.A.Robotham.

I am in receipt of your letter dated 15th. August, Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}5/kL. enclosing drawings of proposed mounting for 40 mm. guns, and also drawing of shield, for which I thank you.

It is noted that the lower ball bearing is of the double purpose type to take the upward lift, but the top bearing, which is fitted to take the downward blow, is of the normal location type.

Can it be confirmed that this will be adequate to take the firing blow, and that means of supplying the ball races with lubricant will be provided?

I note that you anticipate having a sample of this mounting available in about three weeks time, and I shall be glad to know in due course when it will be convenient for my representative or myself to see it.

As regards the shield drawing, I note it is modelled on the present Oerlikon mounting shield but, as your gun trunnion is slightly higher, it may be necessary to modify it slightly.

Could you please say whether the shield, as drawn, gives perfect balance for training with the Rolls Royce gun shipped.

Yours faithfully,

S.C.Whyham.......
