For the attention of Mr. Skinner.

Dear Sirs,

We have had three Bentley petrol pumps Nos. RB.{R. Bowen}1443, RB.{R. Bowen}1358 and RB.{R. Bowen}234 returned to us on account of leaks. These pumps had been modified by you, and had to be removed after they had been fitted to chassis before the car had even gone on the road.

We have examined these and find the complaints justified. In two cases there were bad leaks round the nuts on the magnet pot flange. The nuts were not tight but the leakage still occurred when they had been tightened up. The reason being that the corrosion caused by the old G.L. material had not been removed from the face on the body, leaving a very irregular surface against which it would be impossible to make a petrol tight joint. The remaining pump had leaks from the top plugs.

We should be glad if you would see these faces are cleaned up before re-assembling the modified pumps, and are at a loss to understand how they were not observed on your test rig.

We thank you for your letter concerning the pumps with silencing washers. We do not feel altogether satisfied with these and we should be glad if you would hold them until next week when I will come over and review the position.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LIMITED.
