The car has been put out of action. Scholes & Dixon took the car out to fill up with petrol and had not proceeded much more than 200 yards when upon overtaking a stationary lorry, another van proceeding in the opposite direction crashed into the front offside. The impact has bent the front axle backwards and upwards on the O.S. The wheel rim is buckled, mudguard tucked in. The O.S. front road spring, one of the clips was bent but no damage to the leaves. We are examining the steering to ascertain whether the pedular shaft has been twisted. We shall require a new axle with the O.S. operating shaft in axle. It is too late to enquire at Paris but in any case if they have one we can replace it with the one sent out.

With regard to this accident, after having a lengthy conversation with the owner of the van, a Châteauroux resident, we decided that it would not be policy to have to fight a claim in the court here, we therefore mutually agreed that each should stand the expenses and let the matter drop.

Although a Policeman who I know who was on point duty on the spot, no police proceedings were taken as no injury occurred to either persons. He gave me the sketch enclosed.
