With reference to Sr/VAI/ET.16.5.36, we think that there is some mistake in stating that the stiffened type bracket of the cross member has fractured, as we can hardly imagine that one of these has yet been fitted on Chassis B.10.GA. In regard to the failure of the studs which secure the front wing stay in position on the chassis frame, these were originally ¼" and some time ago were made 5/16". Since then we have not heard of any failures, neither have our Experimental Department had any failures on their chassis which have been tested on the road or on the bumping rig. We have considered the question of increasing these studs to โ " dia., but this cannot be done without making new forgings for the headlamp cross member and new pressings for the mudwing stays. In addition, the โ " dia. studs appear to be unnecessarily large when the parts are drawn out on paper. We, therefore, suggest that we defer making any alterations in this connection until we have further evidence that the studs are too small. BY/Cgh.{W Clough} | ||
