For the attention of Mr. Toulmin.

Dear Sirs,

We recently received from you two special LR{Mr Ellor}/T regulator units with reduced compensation.

One of these No.LT.1194, on being received, was connected up in the usual manner and some preliminary observations made, with the unit in a cold condition. It was then left running on load with a view to warming it up, and under these conditions (13 volts on the terminals and delivering about 14 amps) it ran for about 30 minutes. It was then noticed that something was wrong, as both voltmeter and ammeter needles had dropped to zero. From an examination it appeared that an insulation breakdown had occurred on the regulator which resulted in the positive terminal coming into contact with the earth terminal. The base plate was removed, as it was thought that it might reveal something, but nothing else has been touched.

This is the second regulator that has failed in this manner, the other having been ceased in some unknown manner. We should be glad to receive a report on this unit.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
