45840 To B.J. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}1/LG10.9.25. X5840 X 5770 10,000 MILES TEST ON 9-G-111 CAR RUNNING IN FRANCE. With reference to BJ12/DN7.9.25. The 20 HP. cars which are being produced fitted with 4-wheel brakes at the present time in the Works, are identical to 9-G-111 as regards design. Servo gear rattles. On the production cars so far, this fault has not been apparent. When we experienced it on the first experimental cars, we arranged that some of the clearances in the servo drive should be reduced. We are doubtful however whether this will be a permanent cure. As we have no example of a 20 HP. car with a servo gear rattle, no experimental work is being done on this at the moment. We have received no instructions from WW. with regard to it. We do not expect WW. can do much until we can give them more information about it. This work will be carried on as soon as 9-G-111 is returned to the Experimental Dept. Servo jagger. This is another fault which needs investigation. So far there is no explanation why the 20 HP. should be worse than the 40/50 HP. R.{Sir Henry Royce} has suggested that an experiment should be made, but at the moment we have no suitable 20 HP. car to try it on. Steering. The steering on 9-G-111 is equally as good as any 20 HP. car we have ever made as regards road shocks. No doubt however the improvements which are going forward for the 40/50 will be applied to the 20 HP. Front wing stays. These failures have been reported to R.{Sir Henry Royce} There is no difference in the wings stays on this car to those which have been fitted to all 20 HP. cars. We suggest the reason why the wing stays failed on this car is because the wings themselves broke up first. Road springs. The life of the road springs in France confirms our previous experience with 20 HP. cars. No 20 HP. car has ever completed a 10,000 miles test without failure of road springs. contd:- | ||
