x7430 Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/AD11.11.30. LOWER CONTROLS ON STEERING COLUMN. x7430 With reference to, Da{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}4/M7.11.30., Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s criticisms of these controls were :- (1) That the large black knobs spoilt the low appearance of the controls. (2) That he would prefer the levers to be so shortened that they no longer trapped the fingers, a state of affairs which has been a feature of Rolls-Royce cars for many years. (3) That he did not like the counter-sunk head screws, X being visible. We ourselves have made up a number of forms of knob etc. for him to look at and he prefers the type where the knob comes back over the top of the control plate, (see sketch), this type to be used for the mixture control as well. Naturally, to prevent interference and to enable such a job to be assembled a certain amount of design is required. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} | ||
