USE OF THIN OILS ON BENTLEY CARS.
====================
Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}10/R.6.5.38.

Thank you for memo of the 6th inst.

We will arrange to try out thin oils on cars belonging to selected owners.

Am I right in understanding that in the unlikely event of cylinder wear being greater with the use of thin oil than it is with the oils as recommended as standard, the Experimental Department will be prepared to meet the cost of reboring, fitting new pistons etc.if the mileage covered is such that we cannot charge the owner? I suggest that 35,000 should be the minimum mileage.

I suggest that the position should be agreed with the owner at the time that we come to an arrangement with him with regard to using the thin oil.

It is understood that the owner will be the type of man whom we have every reason to believe will treat his car reasonably.

Pk.
