X 2061 Expl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/MJ. 24th. April, 1934. A.R.Smith Esq., General Manager, The Ford Motor Co. Ltd., Dagenham, Essex. Dear Mr. Smith, I am sorry to trouble you again but I want to take advantage of some of the American gear steels. I understand that the best American gear steel is S.A.E.3440. I shall be glad to know whether you use this, and if so, who are your English suppliers. If you do not use this steel I will be glad to know if you can tell me anything about it, also how the steel you are using compares with it. I understand it is a cyanite hardening steel, if therefore you could give me the heat treatment and hardening specification I should be very grateful. I apologize for the trouble I am giving you. Yours sincerely, | ||
