Wraith II Petrol Tank Stone Guard and Straps.
It has been reported that there has been difficulty in riveting the stone guard to the petrol tank strap as shown on our scheme LeC.5165.
After considerable consultation with the Works we have decided that it would be best to make the stone guard similar to that recently issued for the Bentley, namely a thin sheet metal element sweated to the petrol tank. We show our scheme on LeC.5520 herewith.
The stone guard is in three parts, and the petrol tank strap bears directly through the lamp wick on the tank body so avoiding any complication in the riveting of the strap to the stone guard.
It is not intended that the stone guard should be a pressing as the dies would be expensive. For our quantities we understand it would be preferable to hand work the blanks on a former, welding up the corners. We have discussed this with the Tool Office.
