The Engine is well on the way and should be completed to-day. The N° 5 exhaust valve seat has been withdrawn, and the spare bronze seating fitted. All new exhaust valves have been fitted.

No difficulty was experienced withdrawing the cylinder sleeve or fitting the new one. T. Fisher and Cochran are busy with the Gear box. All new bronze bushes are having to be fitted.

The trouble with the third and top Synchromesh is lack of oil. These two Synchromeshes are apparently, not receiving a stream of oil. We cannot observe them under running conditions as the cover comes right under the cross. They were in a dry condition and covered with a brownish carbon; One was green. The rear compartment is apparently drawing and keeping approximately 75% of the oil, the Synchromesh, Gear wheels etc., being situated low down in the box.

We are making several alterations to help to keep more oil in the centre, taking the first, where the constant mesh wheels are.

We are pluging up the reverse shaft at the end that enters the rear compartment, as we suspect oil is going through this shaft, from the constant mesh compartment, which is not necessary.

We have drilled the secondary shaft, to try and get more oil to the bronze bushes. We have also fitted a cup washer in the end to retain a level of oil in this shaft. We are, as the box is being built up, going to see whether we can further improve the centre compartment condition.

We should very much like to get the Car running as we have got our heat wave back again. Temperature in the shade to-day is 32°c.
