- 6 - BENTLEY (contd) 6-B-IV (contd) should get together and report at the next Meeting on proposed development of the Bentley. We have to keep in mind the Lagonda (W.O) competition and a programme is needed showing what items we are going to deal with quickly. The question of whether any further experimental work is needed in connection with a supercharged model is to be considered at the same meeting between Experimental and Design. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} put forward a proposal for an experimental single cylinder engine with two inlets and one exhaust valve operated by an overhead camshaft. This was agreed to with a view to a new engine for future use as distinct from immediate future developments. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} raised the point of getting the big bore engine into production, and having regard to the car going out to France by the end of September it was clear that a decision could not be taken before November. It was however agreed that the shops should be instructed to go slow on material affected by this change, in anticipation of it being introduced at an early date. Body Tests It was reported that Experimental now have a test machine to reveal facts and features in regard to chassis and body distortion, rattles, creaks, etc. which might be experienced when on the road. Springing It was reported that experiments were in hand for improving this, that it was a big job and that great improvement could not be expected except by using independent suspension. Worst Features Boiling of petrol. This was referred to and has been cured by putting the filter outside the chassis. A Depot Sheet is being sent round to standardise this scheme, so as to reduce complaints of this in the future. // Lead Bronze Bearings The Works are now discontinuing the fitting of these as suggested on cars recommended by S. and are concentrating on the A-R bearing metal. | ||
