H.R. 255a (100 T) S.H. 798. 10-17-20: G 2947 X.3199 To Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. c. to Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} R3/G16.2.21. X.4275 - RE U.S.A. ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT X.2814. X.918. X.3199 With reference to learning something from the U.S.A. electrical ignition equipment, it will be noticed that the sets we have had so far have not been a very great success. You will remember the trouble with the Remy, in which the distributor was unsatisfactory, and fired back on us when we started the engine with the starting handle, and the coil broke down with moisture. If you will examine the Bosch coil, which is an extremely recent design, you will see that it would appear to be a more costly coil to build than our coil. We cannot believe with the pattern of core that it is so efficient and moreover, it is not so automatically water-tight as ours. If you do not mind the defects embodied in this ignition tackle, which we have enumerated, one would consider that there is something to learn from the contact maker, but nothing from the coil, distributopor governor, but you must remember at the same time that ours is an adaption of our old trembler apparatus, which was designed so many years ago. You must not suppose that we should perpetuate this. It has, however, the merit of working satisfactorily, and avoiding nearly all the troubles of this class of apparatus (which so far no other make does. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
