Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} x200 GRY{Shadwell Grylls} scheme c. Wer. By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} Da.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} E.1/HP.3.2.36. re Endurance Running on 20/25 and Bentley engines. Thank you for your memo Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}11/KW.31.1.36. The chart of hours run with failures recorded - Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}62 is going to be a very useful reference, and I agree that there are certain definite things which we have got to improve. With regard to the driven plate of the spring drive, I am very anxious indeed about this and I am sorry that this was not included in the specification of the big bore Bentley and the 25-30. You will no doubt recollect that we issued an improved design of damper flywheel with a solid centre to LeC.4629 on 9.9.35 with increased inertia and damping, and I believe this is running on an engine. This was tested originally with the cork inserts but it is quite as suitable for cotton ducks as the present scheme, and same have been issued. I am of the opinion that we ought to test and adopt this solid centre as soon as possible even if we do not require the increased inertia and damping. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} | ||
