RE. SPORTS PHANTOM. X.8774 X.8470 X.8430 X.8500 X.4556 We send herewith N.sch.2484 shewing the following features which we wish to be fitted to the first car of the Sports series EAC.14. (1) Dashboard. X. 8500. This is a cast dash like that on EAC.8. but is modified in the neighbourhood of the supports following the design for India. This gives greater clearance for the coachwork and the feet. We have made the casting such that it can be used on the Sports car or for the revised 'D' type steering on EAC.8. (2) Pedals. X. 8470 The clutch and brake pedals are those designed for EAC.8. save that the latter is moved out to line up with the rod to the servo, and that the plates of both are set to the angle for the special rake of the column. The accelerator pedal is that for EAC.7, modified as indicated. These pedals would be suitable in essentials for standardisation on production as soon as we can have the revised seating positions. (3) Footboards. These are those set out for EAC.8. The boards finish flush with the dashbrackets and extend back only as far as drawn. The other boards will be on the body. (4) Scuttle. X. 8500 The scuttle ironing will be that already set out for EAC.8. and the damper that recently sent to you for India. (5) Dipping lamp controls. X. 4555 The controls are essentially those set out on L.F.651 modified as indicated on our drg. We will later send you the design of lamp supports and controls from the dash to the lamps. (6) Steering column and support. X. 8430 We show the steering column supported by stays from the dash only. We would be glad if Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} would fit up a set of stays similar to those on EAC.7, 14-EX and make a test. It is important that the stays should spring from the same place on the dash as that we have chosen. This is very urgent. In the scheme we have shewn the column 10.250 from the centre of the car. With the latest box this will be 10.150. The slightly different wheel and set dimensions to those used on 10-EX are those asked for by Expl: Dept: We would be glad if Derby would set out full size schemes of these sections and send us a print for our general information.
