Modifications and trials of the Sequence Starter No. 2A motor scheme.

It will be remembered that after making trials of this motor on the bench and on the car, the main report of which was our EFC1/T10.5.27, it was decided to make certain modifications to the motor - (1) In the strength of main control spring. (2) The final position of the armature in relation to the pole pieces, and (3) In the provision of tapered pole pieces and armature. These modifications were duly instructed and made, the maximum amount of taper considered possible being obtained on the armature. The process of producing the taper on the existing machine was somewhat drastic, as the armature conductors themselves had to be machined. The motor was then sent to you, together with the Bosch, for comparison, and subsequently returned to us. On trial of the motor so modified on the bench the action was found to be a good deal better than previously, so much so that it was considered sufficiently good for an experimental trial on the car (14-EX). It turned out however that the armature insulation af had failed owing to the drastic treatment which it had received, and it became necessary to rewind, and also to dismantle and re-assemble the commutator. This is now being done and the scheme will be again arranged on 14-EX. There would appear to be considerable promise of great impro-vement in the functioning of this, as compared with that described in our report above mentioned. EFC. | ||
