6066 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/RC.{R. Childs}1/MH.{M. Huckerby} Messrs. Lucas Ltd., Great King Street, Birmingham. 15th. September 1937. For the attention of Mr. Toulmin. Dear Sirs, We have recently received from you a pair of wind-tone horns of the elbow, or W.T.13. type for test. We understand that the trumpets on these have been slightly lengthened, for the purpose of raising the frequency or pitch of the sound, as distinct from increasing the volume of sound. In order that we may keep clear as to the alterations involved in the development of the horns, and what is expected of them, we would be glad if you would kindly inform us :- (1) Whether these horns include any modification to the body and spiral, for raising the note pitch, and consequently the penetrating power; as your Mr. T. Harris thought might be done. (2) Whether the operating element has been altered, or is of our standard W.T.11.X. type. (3) Whether we may expect, apart from alteration in pitch, any increase in the volume of sound. In this connection, we believe that you consider that the elbow type of horn, from its construction, will have somewhat less volume than our standard type. | ||
