Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} has asked me to communicate with you on the question of the weight of this car in order to ascertain more definitely just what the weights respectively of the body and chassis are.

In your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/MJ18.12.31 you state that the car weighed over 35 cwts without passengers. Can you let me know please, definitely what is included in that weight - for instance does it include a tank full of petrol and was it fully equipped with all its kit ?

The chassis would appear to be heavier than standard by reason of a Phantom II exhaust system, special gear-box and larger petrol tank with possibly more petrol in it. Would not these features account for at least 1 cwt extra ?

If you have the actual weight of the chassis it would be very interesting for us to have it for purposes of comparison, but naturally in sending us any actual weights of either chassis or complete car we should like to know exactly what is included in the weights.

So far as the body is concerned, whilst there are features in the body of this chassis which are not found in the standard 6-seater, and which do account for extra weight, we are of the opinion that the body is not in excess of 9 cwts, which, in view of the fact that it has a large built-in luggage container, sunshine roof, louvres over the doors and running boards combined with front wings, all of which account for extra weight, does not appear to us to be excessive.

We shall, however, be able to more definitely to compare the weights with any standard production when we hear further from you as to the weight of this chassis.

We are entirely in agreement with you that every effort should be made to keep the weight down, particularly in a car of this type which is used more for high speeds than would be a normal type of 6-seater.
