FRAMES & FITTINGS - WRAITH III. Herewith the following scheme :- F.CD.54 Modified Fixing for Frame End Bracket. The modifications shown on this scheme are to overcome the following complaints :- (1). The plate stiffening FW.956 could not be accurately positioned by Messrs. Rubery Owen, owing to "creep" of the side plate during spot welding (see HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}3/VS.{J. Vickers} 7.6.37), consequently the forged bosses on FW.956 were badly out for drilling. With the new scheme accurate placing of the stiffening plate is not necessary. (2). According to HPS.{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}1/VS.{J. Vickers}7.6.37. the bolt holes showed signs of wear and elongation. The present scheme takes the location on fitted bushes, and increases the amount of bearing area. Turned down bolts in clearance holes are used instead of fitted bolts. We have applied the scheme to the 4-bolt frame end bracket, which is suitable for the high engine mounting, and is shown on the scheme E.CD.61. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
