GOSHAWK-11 CARS. X4086 X4219

We are expecting to send 6-Goshawk-11 to France by the end of this week or early next week as soon as we have received instructions from Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence on this point.

We are rather hoping to keep 6-Goshawk-11 back at the Works until we have satisfactorily overcome the faults which have been complained of and improvements and alterations to which have been condoned by R.{Sir Henry Royce}

One of the worst features on this car, however, is the rattle in the gear box which I have described fairly fully in other reports, copies of which have been sent to you. I am hope that we shall be able to affect a cure on this before delivery, but we have not yet been able to affect a cure or to go into the matter sufficiently thoroughly to give all the facts of annalysis and investigation. It is possible, however, that the car will have to be delivered with this fault in.
The general object being, for this car to be driven direct to Le CanadelHenry Royce's French residence by you on arriving in France so that a final discussion on the whole Goshawk constructions can be gone into, but I strongly recommend that we should have the car returned to the Works for these weaknesses to be dealt with unless they can be cured in the meantime.

As far as possible on this car, we are sending it out with free from clutch and brake troubles and the carburation, steering etc. fixed up with suggested modifications from R.{Sir Henry Royce}, such as - friction in the steering column, buffers in the longitudinal steering tube etc. These, however, we will acquaint you with later and will also let you know as soon as something is definitely settled re. delivery.

On 6-Goshawk-11, the silencer is very noisy and we have found that this had not been made to drawing. This we are correcting - it is possible that yours may be the same. Do you think it is too noisy, booms etc.?

Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} complains that the rocker rollers are still wearing flats. Could you report on the condition of yours.

Petrol filter. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reports that he has had no trouble on 4-Goshawk-11 in this respect as you will see from his reports (enclosed). We have also had no trouble in this respect on 6-Goshawk-11 which I have examined carefully on test.

Have you made a test yet with the whole system including the rear tank and the filter thoroughly cleaned out so as to make a fresh start?

We should like to hear from as regards the experience
