To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL. C. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} X 58400 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/AJL2/AM4.10.29. LARGE BORE 20 H.P. The inlet and exhaust valves on the large bore 20 H.P. engine are different sizes. We have recently had a case of the valves being erected in their wrong positions, viz. inlet valves in exhaust ports and vice versa. Although the valve seats are different, the valve stems are the same diameter. In order to make this mistake less possible, the valve stems and guides also should be different, (the exhaust guide larger than the inlet). The same remarks apply to the S.S. engine. We recommend that the guides and stems be altered as soon as possible on both cars; if the mistake is possible in our own works it will be more so in other places.
