the new experimental axles after they have been in full use for the 19 chassis, or (c) whether we shall agree to guarantee the new axles and take them on to the original contract as an extra, and again put our present car through the tests (as a safeguard) before we fix the new axle, and then do the tests again with the new axle.

It seems to me that (c) is the safest course. I am of the belief that the original chassis which we submitted to the test had a low compression engine. I suppose it might make a considerable difference if future tests were made with a high compression engine.

The India Office officials mentioned that they had understood from Mr. Day that we could guarantee that the new axles would carry out the tests required; also that the new axles would cost about £150 and they did not expect to pay more than this amount, whereas the quotation we have just received from the Works is £190 without profit. Will Mr. Day kindly let me know how far we have gone in quoting or to guaranteeing?
