Re: Cross Steering Levers for 1.B.50.

PD.134 attached shows how the present cross steering levers of B.III, GB.2773/4 can be bent to clear the 7.00" tyre on the 16.00" diameter rim 5.00" wide at present specified as final equipment for B.50, the out-of-centre point being maintained at 2.17". These levers will obviously allow any smaller size of tyre or narrower rim to be used than that specified.

It is proposed by Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} to fit a set of these levers to 1.B.5, with the correct yoke pieces and to make skid-pan tests on steering relative to tyre sizes. The same applies to 1.B.50. Should it be discovered that a 6.5 section tyre will be adequate for both cars and there is no gain with the 7" section we shall then issue a suitable cross steering lever.

The effect of these levers as compared with those shown in GB.2773/4, is to reduce the lock angle of the outside wheel from 32o to 28o for the lock angle of inside wheel of 41o.

Levers bent as shown should be fitted to the first B.50 car. They must be made from the forgings GB.2773/4 as indicated.
