DERBY.

Dear Robotham,

Referring further to your letter of the 3rd January. on the subject of the aluminium cylinder block on our Cub engine, since my last letter I find that we have had a bit of trouble with this unit; it has been taken out of the chassis and stripped down. No. 1 bore liner has apparently pulled down and was fractured.

I want you to note that on this particular engine no precautions had been taken with regard to lipping of liners or the like - they had been fitted with the ordinary interference fits and apparently this has not been sufficient in the case of this particular bore.

If you would like to inspect this block at Leyland, if you would be good enough to let me know when you could come up I will hold it ready for you, and have available any details in regard to oil consumptions and dimensions. On the other hand, if you cannot spare the time, I will be quite prepared to send the block to you for examination, together with the information requested.

Yours faithfully,

(V.W. Pilkington).
