Dear Robotham,

Just a brief line to you privately on a subject which I think will be of interest to both of us.

I understand you are having Mr. Taub to see you and I would like to tell you that we have had rather a poor reception at all times from Vauxhall for some reason or other, quite apart from having made nothing for them. The point is that, for some unknown reason, Mr. King, the Chief Engineer has a very anti-Wellworthy complex. Why this is we have never been able to find out. However, that is not the point. These things happen in trade; one cannot help it.

The point is that we have just recently been put to us a Diesel proposition by Perkins' people. They have not been getting anything like the results as the people we are supplying, such as Leylands, Gardners and others, with the specially hardened rings manufactured for this particular type of job. We try to suit the ring to the job we are making it for and Leylands and Gardners, Perkins admits, have had ring service and ring results, he never has had.

It is interesting to know that I understand Mr. Taub arranged with H.{Arthur M. Hanbury - Head Complaints} & G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} to design the rings and rest of the apparatus so that Perkins would get better results than they were getting and, from the information I have got, the results were very much worse.
