QUARTERLY COMPLAINTS OF PETROL GAUGES. For some time now we have been looking round for an alternative petrol gauge to replace the present Hobson. The alternatives, however, are not very hopeful. There are the electrical ones which we have a certain prejudice against - we think if we started on electrical it would finish up by making our own. The only other alternative is the Nivex. We have run one of these 10,000 miles but we are not altogether pleased with it and we think that when made in quantities it would be just as unreliable as the present one. It is a fact that most of the petrol gauge failures are occurring on the early gauges which were known to have faults. We consider that we have exhausted the possibilities of improvements to the present gauge and therefore will arrange to get other types running on experimental cars. Copy of letter attached.
