x386 [Signature] MARTINDALE DX. [Struck through] C. S. to Mr. Hives Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Fm. E/HDY.{William Hardy}1/HP.25.2.36. Foot Brake Adjustment. - Phantom III. With reference to the complaint in the strip report on 31-EX under RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer}2/ETM.27.1.36, that the cam surface of the adjusting device burrs over and causes stiffness in operation, we have examined the pieces and think that it will be sufficient to reduce the outside diameter of the locking piece, as we show on W.Sch.4772 herewith. It appears to us that the contour of the pieces complained of is not as regular as we can expect when it is possible to profile mill these cams and that high spots on the outside diameter of the surface have caused local high intensity of pressure. Casehardening was considered when these pieces were first designed, but was rejected on the grounds of distortion and cost, we believe. E/HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
