Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr.Grylls. We despatched to you yesterday the twelve Aerolite experimental pistons for test in the Bentley engine, and these should be in your possession by the time you receive this letter. We hope you will favour us with a communication when the first set has been tested and a comparison made of the performance given with that obtained at present. You will no doubt recall the writer's suggestion that, although from experience we can gauge these matters fairly accurately, we do not always determine at the first attempt, either the optimum clearance or the most favourable contour, as these depend so largely upon the precise form which the cylinder bore assumes when hot, and other characteristics relating to any individual design. If the pistons are reasonably successful right away and you carry out prolonged tests, we would appreciate, at some future date, the opportunity of observing the way the pistons have marked up, some time when you have withdrawn them, if this could be arranged. | ||
