ORIGINAL To R.{Sir Henry Royce} From Ha/Dor.{Mr Dorey} c. to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} c. to Rg.{Mr Rowledge} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} Ha/Dor.{Mr Dorey}1/MJ.17.6.31. 84578. "R" ENGINES FOR "MISS ENGLAND II". The two "R" engines No.17 and 19, out of "Miss England II", have been back at the Works for overhaul. There was very little wrong with either engine. One cylinder block on R.19 was cracked across the valve seats in No.2 bore, the supercharger gears (7.47 ratio) with 45° slipper pads shewed signs of slipping. Other parts of the engines, crankshafts, bearings, etc., were in excellent condition. 60° slipper wheels have been fitted to the superchargers, a new cylinder block to No.19 engine, and the engines rebuilt. We have given each engine a power curve from 2550 - 3000 R.P.M. and the usual slow running, gas starter, etc., tests, as final before despatch. Both engines are now ready to be returned to Italy. Power curves are attached herewith. These curves are slightly lower than our previous final figures, this is due to change of fuel. When last tested the fuel was 33% Alcohol, 33% Benzol, 33% Petrol. This time we used Schneider Fuel 22/78 + 3 A^v/Benzol TEL., the Alcohol accounted for more power previously. Ha/R.N.Dorey. H.B. 23.6.31. We regret this memo has been mislaid. The engines have since been despatched to Italy (18.6.31). | ||
