261 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}4/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 22nd December, 1937. To the Most Honourable the Marquess of Cholmondeley, Houghton Hall, Nr. King's Lynn, NORFOLK. Dear Lord Cholmondeley, Thank you for your letter of December 20th. There is no doubt that the big tyres on the front of your car would make it ride less harshly, but I believe you have the Continental Shock Absorber loading, which, of course, tends to produce hard riding. When you get your new car, we should very much like the opportunity of trying to improve the ride holding without resorting to high shock absorber loads. I would certainly recommend that you have big tyres all round on this car. We have not tried out the big India tyres, out, as yet. With regard to the wheels and tyres which we loaned you, I find from our records that the wheels have been subjected to some severe experimental tests, which might eventually impair their reliability. Under the circumstances, I think you had better have new ones. We will, therefore, arrange the transfer when the new wheels come to hand. Yours sincerely, | ||
