R.R. 493A (50H) (D.B. 175 25-9-24) J.H.D. EXPERIMENTAL REPORT. -2- Expl. No. REF: H84/LC6.7.25. Wider dash and louvered bonnet. The dimensions of the dashboard and bonnet are similar to those which were adopted for the Sports car. The radiator, bonnet and dash were approved by Sales on the Sports car. There were however no louvres fitted on the bonnet of the Sports car. We consider that the bonnet catches are awkwardly placed and inconvenient to handle. We recommend that we should carry on with the standard bonnet catches until we have had more experience with these new bonnets. Even on the short run to WW. and back, there are distinct signs of wear on the pad which presses into the sides of the bonnet. The fixing of the Ferodo on the bonnet strips is not definitely settled. On 7-EX there were two schemes of lacing the Ferodo bon rest. There is no guide for the bonnet lock. It is there-fore difficult to close the bonnet so that it will lock properly. The shape of the bonnet handles has been changed. We prefer the old type. Countersunk rivets are used on the bonnet in place of the snap-head rivets which have been a characteristic feature on the R-R.{Sir Henry Royce} for so long. The Works point out that the counter-sunk rivets are more difficult for them to make a neat job. Also on the present standard bonnet, when it is opened, the shap head rivets butt together and prevent the paint being marked. The radiator is 1.1" higher than the 'V' series. The length of the radiator tubes however have been reduced .350" so that the actual area of the radiator remains approx. contd:- | ||
