BENTLEY III NO.1 UNIT.

We attach hereto for reference photograph showing cracked No.2 exhaust valve EW.1853, manufactured in S/SLV by the Motor Components Co. Ltd., removed from the above unit after completing 53 1/2 hours on the test bed.

On No.3 and 6 exhaust valves, produced in the same material, numerous small cracks are apparent under the valve head. These cracks were in existence when the unit was inspected a short time ago - see report under reference HPS{Horace Percy Smith - Experimental Factory Mgr}/LK.{L. King}1/VS.{J. Vickers}5.9.38., and in accordance with Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}3/MH.{M. Huckerby} 4.10.38. Nos. 2, 3 and 6 exhaust valves have been replaced by standard EW.1853 valves produced in KE.965 (Stellited).
