4488 (handwritten) CJ. from Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Hsl/LG30.1.24. HISPANO BRAKES. CJ5/E29.1.24. 4214 (handwritten) X1557 (handwritten) 4488 (handwritten) With reference to your request that we should test the Hispano brakes with the car running backwards on a gradient of 1 in 5. We have sent a 40/50 RR. car fitted with 4-wheel brakes and the Hispano car to Porlock and the adjacent hills. The tests set out include holding the car from running backwards on gradients. We have previously carried out tests on the Hispano and found that if the car was running back at 10 m.p.h. with the maximum pedal pressure, the car could be held on a gradient of 1 in 7.
