General inference on a casting material's suitability for manufacturing bearings.

| COPY. -4- Test bars were cast 700°. General Inference. This material is fluid and its solid contraction is fairly high. It has made apparently sound castings from all our existing dies and it appears that the working temperature range is fairly wide. From this we would say that from the Foundry point of view, the material is considerably better than A.C.6 or AC7 in its freedom from cracking. The main point is whether the castings we have made are - 1. Free from segregation. 2. Free from pin holes and inclusions. Bl. has sample to determine the first point and if this is satisfactory we will forward specimens to be machined. If the castings prove passable on these two points, then we are prepared in the Foundry to manufacture bearings from this alloy. | ||
