1380 Translation. Rueil Malmaison, 12th. December 1938. Monsieur Paulin to Mr.Bailey, Chief Engineer, Chassis Dept. Rolls-Royce Limited, Derby. Re: BY.15/N. Dear Mr.Bailey, In reply to your letter of the 6th.inst, I send you my sincere thanks for your intervention concerning my request for monthly payment, and at the same time I inform you of the despatch of several designs, to give you an idea of what one can do with the design of the whole vehicle, by equipping the chassis with the new frontal appearance, which I sent to you last time. The car No.A. has the body of the Close Coupled Saloon to design PD.206 with its wings without modification, coupled with the new front. The design without being perfect is not too terrible, and with very little alteration in the lines ( see design B) one gets a good general appearance as you will see; the mass of the wings with respect to the coachwork makes the latter appear low and increases the impression of stability and squabness of the car, although the four designs of coachwork have in fact the same capacity for luggage and interior accommodation, and the same height. The figure C. is shown with a slight tendency towards American lines. The figure D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} has lines more particularly English I believe. I think myself that these sketches of possibilities will give you an idea of the possibilities of adapting this frontal appearance with normal coachwork, if at any time you should adopt it. I attach to these designs one of the sheets of preliminary sketches of which I have done the development of the front appearance, which I have submitted to you. You will there find with Index Titles from one design to another, the features which have led me up to the design of the final assembly, which seem to me the best Cont'd.... | ||
