X. 802 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from EFC. c. to CJ. c. to E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} c. to Fm. X.664. EFC3/T25.9.19. X.664. X.1610 X.2831. X.3232. Re C.A.V. DYNAMO, CUTOUT & BATTERY ON 40-GB. X. 560 X. 1610 X. 3762 The C.A.V. dynamo at present fitted to 40-GB was sent X.802 to us by that firm as a sample dynamo, and described as their revised type of dynamo in which they had embodied certain improvements. Some of these improvements are:- (1) End castings have a better appearance. (2) A terminal board has been added. (3) Carcase is better and cleaner, and free from pitting. (4) Generally a better finish. Electrically, the dynamo would appear to be the same as previous R.U.K.R. type machines. We did not notice what pattern ball bearings were fitted to this machine, but note that you have traced the noise to this source. The cutout fitted is also a new improved type submitted to us by the C.A.V. Company. The connections on the car are arranged according to the Photostat attached to Mr. Royce's copy of this note. You will notice that the dynamo switch is a two-point switch, and the arrangement corresponds to the one possible way of using a two-point switch, as explained some time ago, in which arrangement we absolutely rely upon the cutout for effecting the disconnection between the battery and the shunt coils of the dynamo and cutout. We considered that it was an opportunity of trying this arrangement experimentally, especially as Contd... | ||
