Referring to the question of eliminating the elusive piston pin knock we send you herewith drawing No. LeC. 1283 shewing pins fixed in the connecting rod, and pins free in both connecting rod and piston, as promised during your last visit to West WitteringHenry Royce's home town.

Mr. Royce wishes me to say that the immediate object of the test is to determine whether this treatment of the pin is of any value rather than to test out the designs shewn on LeC.1283, so that for the purpose of the test it is only necessary to use one each of the methods shewn of plugging up the pin ends.

If the moving pin, or full floating pin proves to be a success, then it will be necessary to find out which of the schemes shewn on LeC.1283, is the best for standardisation.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
