Mr. Black of the Stromberg Carburetter Company called at the office. He stated that he had a report made by Mr. Olley from America, in which Mr. Olley had stated that the Stromberg Carburetter had given good results on a Rolls-Royce car. We stated that this had been passed to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} together with one of the types of carburetters which had been tried in America. He said that amongst a large number of other car manufacturers, Messrs. Sunbeams now fitted the Stromberg as an extra and that Messrs. Daimlers had accepted it and that he had seen Mr. Pomeroy on this matter. He drew attention to the low cost of the Stromberg, namely about £7.10.0. retail, as compared with the cost of the R.R. carburetter, which he stated was £20. We stated that the carburetters fitted to R.R. cars had at any given time always been far in advance of proprietary carburetters, and that we were continually at work on them introducing improvements as they were discovered, and that so far, though we had examined all the important proprietary designs of carburetter, we could not find anything that suited our purpose so well as our own design.

As regards aero carburetters, Mr. Black stated that the Stromberg was now practically universally used in America and that the Transatlantic Flights and the North Pole Expedition had been carried out with the Stromberg. He stated that he was supplying Stromberg Carburetters for test on both Jupiter and Jaguar Engines. It is understood we have tried the carburetter on the 6-cyl. engine, but that the standard carburetter, as made for the D.12, is not applicable to the carburetters of the 'V' Engine. Mr. Black had a look at the engine in the Showroom and was able to see for himself that none of his standard productions would suit the engine as it stood, and in any case he is unable to manufacture aero engine carburetters in this country.

Suggest, therefore, that there is no more action to take in this connection but would like your confirmation.

F.{Mr Friese}
