OUR REF. IM/GR{George Ratcliffe} 19th January 1929. Messrs.Rolls Royce Ltd., Experimental Dept., DERBY. Dear Sirs, For attention of Mr. Robotham. Further to our letter of the 11th inst. we beg to say that we have now heard from the Solex Research Dept., Paris asking us to enquire whether you would be good enough to assist them by including the following tests among those which you kindly offered to carry out. 1. Obtaining a series of comparative speed and acceleration tests between the 32 and 34 choke settings, using of course the appropriate jets with each. They suggest that readings are most carefully taken on this test, for our research directorate do not think that the difference in respect of speed will be found to be sufficiently great to warrant the use of larger choke tubes than 32. Comparative observations, however, will show if the comparative bench curves produce commensurate road differences. 2. They also ask if you would be kind enough to have consumption figures obtained on a series of short tests at various speeds from 10 m.p.h. upwards and at intervals of ten, making each test over the same stretch of road, in the same direction and under identical weather conditions.
