Comparative silence and wear tests on various Dunlop tyre treads.

We carried out a comparative silence test between our improved silent tread tyre with the trans-verse grooves,and the new tread M.A.11 tyres that we have been running. The tests were conducted on a wet macadam road. The impression formed was that the new tread M.A.1. was not really unduly noisy. Dunlops are making us a set of 25 HP., 19" wheel tyres in the M.A.2. tread which will be delivered in three weeks. They are of the opinion that these are quite as silent as the M.A.1. and prefer them from the point of view of non-skidding properties. We are quite satisfied with the wear of the M.A.1 tyres on which we have now done 5,000 miles. Summarising the position. From our tests on the 25 HP. we think the M.A.1. tyre is satisfactory, a safer tyre than our existing silent tread. If you are anxious to make a change over, we will issue a standardisation sheet as Dunlops have a mould and can, therefore, make the tyres at once. Alternatively we suggest you wait until we have completed our tests on the M.A.2. tyre which will probably be in three months time. The advantage of using the M.A.2. tyre is that experience has been gained on the 40/50 by using them on Sg {Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} 's car. | ||
