X1335 To RHC.{R. H. Coverley - Production Engineer} HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Les.5/JH.14.1.36. Spring Testing Machines. The machine used in the works for testing road springs appears to be incapable of dealing with the high loads necessary for the Ph.III coil springs. It is not only difficult to repeat readings, but very difficult to get any readings. Whilst over at " Avery's" yesterday I collected the attached information of spring testing machines. For Ph.III coil springs we require a machine which will test up to 6,000 lbs load ( both springs on full bump) The "Avery" 3 ton machine No.662 is the most suited now listed. Although a dial machine is more satisfactory these are not listed above 1 ton load. As"Avery's" produce dial type weighing machines for far greater loads, they are going to look into the question of supplying a dial type 3 ton spring tester. I have written the price on the leaflets.
