We wish to make some comparison of head-lamp-powers, and should be glad if you would arrange to carry out some tests with a view to comparing the lighting intensity at say, 30, 50 and 100 yards, and further if possible, of C.A.V., Lucas, and Bosch headlamps with several variations in the c.p. of the bulbs and in the type of bulb, i.e., as to size and concentration of the filament. These tests could, of course, be carried out with a spot of spermaceti dissolved in naphtha, on a white paper screen, the lamps to be compared being placed on either side of the screen and their distances from it adjusted until the grease spot disappears. The intensity of lighting is then proportional to the square of the distances of the lamps from the screen.
