Re Phantom III Brakes.

With reference to Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}'s memo.

We did not on any of the Phantom III tests at Chateauroux come across the fouling of the brake lever on the top of the yoke. The most probable reason for this is, that the design of the yoke was altered for each test, until the final design was arrived at. With these alterations the fitters would see that the lever did not foul.

We had plenty of brake troubles, such as the pull rod fouling the new position of the bell crank anchorage inside the frame which caused the front brakes to seize on when I was proceeding to Brooklands, again we had the servo fouling on reverse, which was corrected. These failures would not be reported to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} as they were expt. tests and we take them as a natural course while testing the new design. Having had considerable trouble with the brakes, every point was watched as closely as possible.
