RUBBER ENGINE MOUNTING - PHANTOM. Y8005

With reference to the production of this feature. The general arrangement drg. F.78307 shews the position and working deflection of the rubber blocks. The two blocks F.78114 have a free length of 1.150" - when compressed in the mounting their length is 1.00".

When the weight of the engine comes upon the mounting, there should be no difference between the compressed length of the top and bottom block i.e., they should both remain 1.00" long.

In order to ensure that the quality of the rubber in the blocks does not vary from time to time, a check should be carried out by subjecting the block to a load of 250 lbs; in its working position i.e., as arranged in the engine foot, its deflection under this load should be .100 ± .015.

It is essential that these rubber blocks should not be exposed to ~~high~~ temperatures, and therefore some form of protection should be arranged when the car is on the dynamometer.

The tempering of spring plates F.78147 is important as we have had cases of fracture on our intensive tests when this was not properly carried out.
